HOLSWORTHY ’44
A WWII COMMEMORATION
COMMEMORATION
Realising the debt that is owed to those that were there and gave their lives for our freedom. For the children to play in the park; for the teenagers to be able to text friends and meet at parties; for you and me to go wherever we wish to and do whatever we want to do; without fear or favour.
We intend to deliver an event that will be as poignant as it is entertaining. A tribute and a commemoration to Holsworthy that will instill a sense of pride and commitment to the town going forward.
EDUCATION
Designed not just for the veterans or older people who lived through the war times, but also for the young people to experience a taste of what it was like. The very young to try being an ‘evacuee’ and how it felt and the comparisons between the recent Ukrainian refugee crisis. The ‘Make Do and Mend’ ethos of the war at homes throughout Holsworthy and its surrounds, and draw comparisons to the Covid lockdown and how it affected everyone.
RE-ENACTMENT
With period military vehicles; firepower displays; a military camp; a Blitz Shelter experience; a big-band dance evening; living history re-enactors and entertainers; variety hall acts; and even a Joe Louis recreation boxing match, we will be bringing the spirit of the 1940s back to Holsworthy. See the shops decorated and the public dressed in period clothing for an unforgettable and thought-provoking weekend.
